Aloha, peeps … did you hear that we’re all getting special $500 rebate checks from the state?? April Fools’!! C’mon … did you really think that our government would give any money back to us?! In your dreams! In any case, here we are in the middle of Spring and it still feels like winter … I’m sitting here huddled in a sweatshirt and it’s already 8am … frick! Oh well, I’ll still take cold & dry over hot & humid any day …
I hope you all had a nice Easter weekend … our family gathered for an early Easter brunch before heading home to watch the rest of the NCAA Basketball Tournament playoff games. During the Louisville vs. Duke match-up, one of the Louisville players went up to try and block a shot and – snap! – broke his leg and came down with the bone protruding from the skin! It was so sudden and shockingly gruesome that I couldn’t bear to watch the replay! Everything in that arena came to a sudden halt as medical personnel rushed to help the young man as both teams watched in disbelief, many in tears while trying to console each other. It was something I hope I never see again …
Last week was another busy one for us at ‘IOLANI .. especially with the 50th Annual Merrie Monarch Festival happening this week over in Hilo. We want to send our best wishes out to all of the halau competing this weekend … good luck! I still have fond memories of last year’s festival when our own Sarah Kamalei Noyle competed in the Miss Aloha Hula competition and we all went there to cheer her on. I hadn’t been back to Hilo since my small-kid days and I forgot how unique and charming a town it is … everything from the giant strawberry mochi from Two Ladies Kitchen to the noisy coqui frogs!
ManoaDNA also has a full schedule and it looks like this week will be even busier as we prepare to leave for the mainland soon. Lots of stuff to do, so little time …
Aloha, “D”Â
