Good morning!

Fall is my favorite time of year … there’s football, Thanksgiving, and best of all, great weather!  Although many will say that we have one season here in Hawai’i, I can still detect the subtle seasonal changes in our weather.  I especially love the fall & winter mornings here in Manoa … clear blue, cloudless skies with a cool crispness in the air.  Ahhhhh ….

We had a busy day at our IOLANI store yesterday .. a group of our friends from Yokohama came in to shop and I heard they had a great time!  It was so nice to see Mayumi and “Nom-be” (that’s her nickname!) … we first met “Nom-be” in Yokohama during our July tour at a little bar called Lei Hale where our good friends, Akio & Eriko Kase, were performing.  We were introduced to Nom-be and another good friend, Noriko-san, who were sitting at the same table.  We all ordered these huge mugs of draft beer – and I mean HUGE – and Nom-be proceeded to polish off THREE of these mugs!  This woman is tall and very slim … not someone you would picture as a serious beer drinker.  Our poor bass player, Mark, barely made it through half his mug before the room started spinning, and the rest of us weren’t too far behind!  Anyway, it was great to see them all yesterday and mahalo for coming to visit us!  I look forward to seeing all of you in Japan next year!

We had another BBQ at our house last night for our good friend, Guy Wells, and his family who are visiting from San Luis Obispo.  Guy and I have been close friends and business partners for many, many years and the boys have known “Uncle Guy” since they were toddlers.  Nick prepared steak and prawns on the outdoor grill while Alex supplied the poke, and we all had a great time reminiscing about the old days …

Aloha, “D”
