Aloha, friends!
Well, it’s official … Alex and Sarah are ENGAGED!! He proposed yesterday as the two of them sat on beautiful Kaimana beach watching the sunset … you couldn’t have asked for a more romantic setting! And because Alex had told us beforehand, we were all there to witness the happy occasion including Nick, who had flown in from the mainland a couple of hours before! Needless to say, there were many hugs and tears of joy … in fact, there was a couple sitting nearby and I could see that the girl was crying too! It was pretty surreal ….
After that, we all headed to the Raging Crab restaurant and pigged out on spicy Dungeness and Alaskan King Crab, shrimp, mussels, and sides of corn of the cob, potatoes, and rice. The food was pretty spicy but SO ONO … and the best part was the rainbow shaved ice with ice cream that we had for dessert! Since my face felt like it was literally on fire from all that chili oil, I almost did a face plant into that cool mound of shaved ice … almost. After cooling down some, a few of us headed over to Tsukuneya, our favorite watering hole near the University of Hawaii, where we celebrated with rounds of shochu (any excuse to party!) before I had to call Carla to come and pick me up. I woke up this morning feeling pretty good except for the slight garlic aftertaste in my mouth … and this was after brushing my teeth twice! However, I was instantly reminded of the previous night’s meal when I went to open my car door and was greeted by a stale stench of chili garlic sauce. Someone had left a bag of leftover crab in my car overnight! Frick … and boy, did it STINK!
So now it’s Friday and I’ll be heading over to Lulu’s to watch Alex’s last regular performance there. Then tomorrow night we have our final “blow-out” where we’ll be rocking it at Gordon Biersch from 6pm to 11:30pm. Our pals Jon Yamasato and Danny Cravalho will start off the festivities followed by MDNA, and then Alex & the Leftys will close out the evening. It’s going to be a fun night and I invite you all to come down … it’ll probably be crowded too, so I suggest you call GB manager, Lori, at 387-5674 to make reservations.
It’s time to Rock ‘n Roll, baybeeeee!!!
Aloha, “D”
