Ahhh .. Kohala!!

‘Morning peeps!

Woke up to the sound of surf breaking and birds chirping … another beautiful morning on the Kohala Coast!  The vog was pretty heavy when we arrived yesterday, but it doesn’t seem to be as thick today.  That stuff wreaks havoc on my throat and voice so I hope we don’t sound too weird tonight.  I think I’ll go for a run this morning and then have breakfast with Carla before the boys arrive later today.  Tonight’s event at the Mauna Lani is always so special for us and we really look forward to it every year!

Last night Carla and I went to dinner at one of our favorite Big Island restaurants, Merriman’s in Waimea.  We drove towards Kawaihae to take the road up to Waimea, but were turned away by the police when reached the intersection.  There had been a terrible accident up the road … a fuel truck crash involving a fatality.  The road was closed completely so we had to turn around and head back towards Waikoloa and take the long drive up Waikoloa Drive to Kohala Mountain Rd. into Waimea.  It was about an hour drive and needless to say, I was desperate for a drink when we finally arrived at Merriman’s.  The meal we had more than made up for the drive … it was to die for!  I started off with a great glass of Frank cab, then proceeded to enjoy a fabulous meal of papaya, roasted beet, and tomato salad followed by an entree of pork loin with a chipotle sauce and jalapeno mashed potatoes.  It was SOOOO good!  Then to top it off, I ordered Merriman’s signature chocolate “Purse” for dessert … OMG! I practically inhaled it, it was so good!  Needless to say, the drive back down to the coast was much more relaxed and enjoyable!!

Have a great weekend, everybody!

Aloha, “D”
