Cold LA

Aloha, everyone!  And I thought our weather was screwy … the weather here in LA is even worse!  First, it was frickin’ cold after we got in, then they had 50-60 mph winds yesterday afternoon, then it was freezing again this morning, and tomorrow it’s expected to be in the 90’s … go figure!  Anyway, it’s been an awesome trip so far in spite of the weather … we’ve spent the last two days recording tracks at the famous Village Recording Studios in Santa Monica.  What an awesome place!  John Mayer’s studio was right down the hall from where we were and there are gold and platinum records covering all the walls and hallways.  One thing I learned is that you’d better have your “A” game when you step into the recording booth … these guys are the best and they don’t mess around!  Definitely a whole different level …

Also got to take voice lessons from one of the best in the business.  Michelle is the voice coach for many of the entertainers and musicians here in LA and she definitely knows her stuff!  Within the first few minutes she knew exactly what to work on and began giving me exercises to correct them.  It was amazing .. all the fatigue and strain from that day’s recording was gone by the time I was done.  My entire throat and neck area felt totally loose and relaxed and I felt I could hit any note I wanted!  Of course, I felt like I had been through a workout too … I was covered in sweat after my 1 hr. session!  I tell you, this lady is GOOD, and I hope to continue working with her even after we get back to Hawai’i.

So all in all, this trip has been an amazing experience for us and I sure hope it continues …

Aloha, “D”
