Howzit, everybody … and welcome to another beautiful, windy Manoa morning! Hope you all had a good weekend … ours started out with a great Friday night at Lulu’s. Fun crowd with lots of visitors from the mainland, Japan, and Australia. The Aussies are a blast – such fun-loving people who really appreciate our music here in the islands. We’d sure love to perform down there one of these days! Oh, and if you’re looking to perform in Waikiki, make sure your repertoire is big because you’re going to get requests for songs from every genre and decade you can imagine … and sometimes in a foreign language! It’s almost impossible to know everything, but it sure helps to know something …
On Saturday, we sang the national anthem and Hawai’i Pono’i at the UH vs. Northern Arizona basketball game. Although we rehearsed it over and over, I was nervous as hell because it was the first time we were singing a capella … and it was the national anthem and our state song! I did manage to make it through both numbers with only one minor glitch, and it was actually fun singing without instruments. I just hope no one noticed my “deer in headlights” stare on TV …
Nick, Alex, and some of their friends went skydiving on Sunday morning out at Mokuleia to celebrate Nick’s 30th birthday. There was a lot of nervous anticipation building up to the jump, but everyone ended up having a great time and the photos were amazing! Nick wore a suit and Alex wore his marimokkuri costume … I know, you’re all thinking, “What the .. ?!?” but they actually looked VERY cool and fashionable!
Alex will be in LA for a few days so MDNA won’t be performing until Saturday at the Kani Ka Pila Grille. However, Alex and The Leftys will be at Lulu’s on Friday so if you’re in the area, check them out … they’re good.
Aloha, “D”
