It’s 5am on a cool, humid Saturday morning. The air is so still that I can hear the neighbor two houses away moving around in their kitchen … it’s that quiet! I usually have a hard time sleeping when the weather’s like this … I don’t know whether it’s the humidity, vog, or the silence. Oh well, the trades are supposed to return in a couple of days so that’ll be a good thing …
Yesterday was Black Friday, one of the biggest shopping days of the year, but it sure didn’t seem as crazy as in previous years. I had a meeting down at Ward Center at 8:30am, so I decided to park my car at the office and walk over to avoid the crowd and parking hassle. But when I got there, the parking lot was pretty empty and there were very little people walking around … what the?!! After I got out of my meeting 2 hrs. later, however, the place was jammed with cars and people. I guess I got there right after the midnight shopping rush was over and before the next wave of shoppers hit. Great timing …
Since ManoaDNA was off last night, Carla and I went down to Side Street Inn after closing ‘IOLANI on KONA ST. to grab a quick bite to eat before heading home. We ordered our new favorite, the ‘Nalo Salad … a fresh assortment of greens grown locally and named after Waimanalo, an area over on the east side of O’ahu where some of the stuff is grown. The homemade vinaigrette dressing is the bomb and goes real well with the different flavors of the vegetables … it’s so ono! We also ordered the Chef Lani’s Wings – basically fried chicken wings in a special batter – which are always so crunchy and delicious! We were so stuffed afterward, we could barely fit through the door when we left!
Damn … Punahou played Kahuku last night for the state football championship and lost!  Didn’t get to see it, but I hope it wasn’t a blow out. There are some good college and NFL games this weekend … especially today’s Notre Dame-USC matchup! Local boy Manti Te’o and the Irish are going for a perfect 12-0 season and a possible national championship so I’m definitely rooting for them. They’re playing over at USC though, and the Trojans are usually very tough at home …
