Happy Aloha Friday, peeps!
I saw a headline in the Star-Advertiser the other morning that really floored me – “Bill Would Cut UH Fee for Illegal Immigrants”. Our state government wants to give illegal aliens the same UH college tuition break that local residents get. What the .. ?!! Doesn’t “illegal immigrant” refer to someone who’s in our country ILLEGALLY … as in AGAINST THE LAW?! Hey, I’m all for the “land of opportunity” and “American dream” stuff but shouldn’t a person at the very least be required to become a legal U.S. citizen before tapping into our benefits? Not only that, but our U.S. out-of-state and foreign students who are here LEGALLY are still required to pay a much higher tuition! I’m sorry, but this is TOTALLY absurd and I just don’t get it … do you??!
OK, I’m done venting … on to some normal, non-political stuff. My throat’s been feeling about the same for the last couple of days … still congested but at least I still have some voice left. I’ll be able to rest it tonight since ManoaDNA has the night off and Alex will be doing his solo live at Lulu’s. Tomorrow we’ll be back at the Kani Ka Pila Grille, and on Sunday we perform for the Rainbow For Japan Kids fundraiser at the Hawai’i Convention Center. It’s great to be able to do stuff for these kids who have been through so much …
And speaking of food .. I’ve become a big fan of Down To Earth’s deli food. Down To Earth is a natural foods store – all vegetarian, natural and organic. I would drop by every now and then to pick up one of their ono avocado sandwiches, but decided to try their hot vegetable soup since I’ve been under the weather recently. Their deli is pretty amazing and has a great assortment of soups, salads, and hot & cold entrees, all for take-out. Along with their soup, I ended up buying several slices of their vegetarian pizza and an avocado sandwich (of course!) to take home. I know a lot of you are thinking, vegetarian?? Bland, tasteless, hippie mush … yuck! WRONG!! The food was awesome and soooo ono … way better than a lot of the take-out you buy from regular stores and restaurants And no, I’m not a vegetarian either in case you were wondering …
Aloha, “D”
