Golf Thursday

Howzit everybody,

Another cool Manoa morning … birds singing, puppies barking, and a steaming mug of Dunkin’ Donuts coffee!  Ahhh … heaven!  Got another busy day ahead … couple of meetings in the morning and then I’m off to battle the golf gods with my Thursday group of degenerates.  Also wanted to share a couple of cool photos from last week’s storm, but will probably have to put ’em in tomorrow’s blog since I’m at IOLANI and don’t have access to them right now.  Very cool .. but scary!

We had a fun time at The Swim in the Hyatt Waikiki last night … we actually had people up and dancing for the first time!  It was so cool and everyone seemed to be having a good time. Vince (F&B manager) and his hard working staff are still trying to work some of the bugs out, but The Swim can become a nice little venue over time.  It was great to see our friends Sue, Mary, and Nery there … Mary is the widow of my very good friend, Gary, who passed away last year from cancer.  I hadn’t seen her in a while so it was good to see her out and about …

After we were done, Mark and I headed over to Mac/24-7 in the Hilton on Kuhio Ave. to grab something to eat.  This is the place that was featured on an episode of Man Vs. Food where host Adam Richman tried to beat the Mac Challenge by eating three GIGANTIC buttermilk pancakes – I mean, the pancakes are so huge they look like garbage can covers!   I think he was only able to finish about half of it before finally giving up, so you can imagine what a massive amount of food it was!  Anyway, Mark and I weren’t about to take on that kind of gastronomic challenge and ordered normal stuff instead – eggs w/ sausage, eggs benedict, etc.  But while we were waiting, a waiter came by pushing a food cart that had an order of those giant pancakes on it.  We watched to see where it went, and lo and behold … it ended up at a table where a young Japanese couple was sitting!  Now you gotta understand, each pancake is about 14 inches in diameter, 3/4 inch thick, and there are 3 of them stacked on top of each other!  You should have seen the look on their faces!  Well just as I thought, they hardly made a dent in the first one before giving up, and ended up walking out with a HUGE doggie bag!  I don’t think they expected that much food!  Hahaha!

And before I sign off, I want to send happy birthday wishes out to our friend, Sarah, who turned 40 yesterday!  I’m sorry we missed the party last night but I heard it was a blast!

Have a great Thursday, my friends!

Aloha, “D”
