Happy Birthday, Alex!!

It’s day #2 of the new year, Jan. 2nd, which also happens to be a very special day in our family because it’s Alex’s birthday!  I’m not sure what he has planned for today, but I’m sure it involves some partying!  He and my dad have the same birthday which I always thought was pretty cool – the oldest and the youngest!

Since it looks like it’s going to be another beautiful morning, I’m going to take my mom up to Punchbowl to go and visit my dad’s grave.  It’s been almost 3 years since he passed away but memories are still fresh … yesterday, we were at a New Year’s luncheon at the Arcadia and I happened to look down onto the 2nd floor patio terrace below us.  I suddenly recalled sitting there with my dad a few days before he died, enjoying the sun and just being there with him.  After I took him back to his room, I told him I loved him and left not knowing that it would be our last time together.  The sadness is still there but at least I know he’s more alive than ever in our hearts … so, “Happy Birthday, Dad”!

I hope you all enjoyed a nice, restful New Years Day … I know we did.  We were pretty wiped out after lunch yesterday, especially since we had gotten up early to go and watch the sunrise out at Sandy Beach.  I spent the rest of the afternoon and evening watching the Cowboys lose to the Giants, eating more leftovers, and finally hitting the sack early for some much needed sleep!

Aloha, “D”
