Go Warriors!

Aloha, everyone!

It’s Saturday morning, the start of another busy day for the Kawakami family!  First on the checklist is to bring our Christmas tree into the house – I mounted it on the stand yesterday, sprayed it with the hose to get rid of all the dead needles and stuff, and left it outside to dry overnight.  Gotta warm up the ol’ body before I carry that sucker in … don’t want to hurt myself and end up walking around like Quasimodo for a week!  After that, the boys & I head down to the Center Stage @ Ala Moana Center to perform for the Lokahi fundraiser, something that we try to do every year.  After we’re pau with that, I’m gonna drop the boys off at Aloha Stadium for the U.H. Warriors’ final game of the season against arch rival BYU, and then head back to the IOLANI store for a magazine interview.  Just another typical Saturday ….

ManoaDNA performed for the tree lighting ceremony at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki last night.  Emceeing was Jill Kuramoto, KITV news anchor, while Miss Teen Hawai’i USA, Kathryn Teruya, and Miss Hawai’i USA, Brandie Cazimero, were there to greet the guests.  When they finally threw the switch to turn on the Christmas lights, the entire atrium area of the hotel lit up!  It was a beautiful presentation … except for the two bubble machines right behind the stage that were firing bubbles into the air like there was no tomorrow!  At first there were a few bubbles, like light snowfall .. then it quickly turned into a blizzard!  I felt like I was in a car wash (at least my guitar is now nice and shiny!) … someone even commented that it was the Lawrence Welk Show on steroids!  LOL!  In any case, we had a lot of fun and I want to send a big mahalo out to the staff at the Hyatt for allowing us to participate in their special event …

Afterward, we walked over to the Moana Surfrider’s Banyan Courtyard to relax and watch a hula performance by Kamalei.  Our buddy, Els Simeona, and Lawrence Kidder were providing the music that night so it was a fun show.  So if you’re in Waikiki and looking for a place with great music & hula in a gorgeous setting, check out the Banyan Courtyard in the Moana …

Tomorrow looks like it’ll be a nice, lazy Sunday for me – no gigs, meetings, or whatevers – so I may work out a bit in the morning before spending the rest of the day chilling at home watching football …

Aloha, “D”
