‘Morning, all.
Boy, if it’s not one thing it’s another. Just as my voice finally starts to make a comeback, I now have a cough that just won’t quit! I had this same cough earlier in the year … totally out of control and lasts forever. Last night, we performed at an APEC welcome reception for a group of Australian delegates and I could hardly sing two lines before having to cough. It got so bad that one of the boys had to always be ready to jump in and cover my part because I would suddenly have to stop singing and turn away from the mic to cough. We did manage to get through the evening, however, and actually did a pretty good job considering everything. We also ran into fellow musicians Gary Aiko and Kaipo Asing, who were also there performing. I was laughing because Gary was complaining about having to wear white pants for the gig, especially after seeing us dressed in our black IO-sport outfits. I teased him about why he wasn’t wearing the stereotypical red sash too, but he ended up having the last laugh on us. Those lucky guys got to perform right by the food and drink stations … a DEFINITE plus, especially during breaks!
We stopped off at Zippy’s in Kahala on the way home and I ordered my favorite chili moco – a hamburger patty, two eggs over easy on a mound of rice all smothered with their famous chili! It tasted so good, but not a wise choice especially at 11pm at night!
I’m really looking forward to this weekend when we’ll be at the Eva Parker Wood cottage on the grounds of the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel for Danny Akaka’s “Twilight at Kalahuipua’a” talk story series. We’re all really excited because this is such an awesome event – plus, a bunch of our DNA golfers are coming up to join us so we’re going to play a couple rounds of golf while we’re there too. And there’s always the spa for Carla and video games for Mark (yawn!). Whatever the case, it’ll be a well-deserved break for all of us ….
Aloha, “D”
