Tokyo – midweek

Another crazy day in Tokyo … haven’t had a decent night’s sleep yet and I’m exhausted. It’s been a great trip so far, though, and our time here is going by so quickly. Since we had the day off yesterday, I did a little laundry and then went shopping at UNIQLO in the Ginza after we had lunch at our favorite katsu restaurant, Katsukura, in the City Center. Then last night, we met our good pals Shioji-san and Kaneko-san at … yup, you guessed it, YAMA-CHAN!! But instead of eating tons of our beloved tebasaki (chicken wings) we actually tried a bunch of their other dishes like shrimp tempura salad, takoyaki omelette, kim chee fried rice, fried cheese, and fresh tomatoes. They were all pretty good, but I still love them ‘wings!

Now, if you want to talk about great food, Sapporo definitely has it’s share of it! Two of my “must haves” are the miso ramen and the Genghis Khan yakiniku (which, unfortunately, we weren’t able to enjoy this time due to our hectic schedule – bummers!). They also have awesome dairy and seafood but my greatest discovery on this trip was the corn … OMG, it was SO sweet that it actually tasted like candy! I couldn’t believe it! Up until now, I thought our Kahuku corn was the sweetest, but it doesn’t even compare to the one that I ate in Sapporo! And while at the airport waiting for our flight back to Tokyo, I bought a small box of fruit covered with Royce white chocolate which I thought was fresh strawberries. Imagine my surprise when I bit into the first one – the initial tartness followed immediately by a sweet blend of grape and rich chocolate totally overwhelmed my taste buds! They were the best chocolate covered grapes ever!

Gotta get ready for another busy day of performances and I’m REALLY looking forward to our special ManoaDNA LIVE! at Thumbs Up in Yokohama. The show’s been sold out for several weeks but if you still want to come, I’m sure they’ll be able to accommodate you since there could be a cancellation or two. See y’all there!!

Aloha, “D”
