Trades are back with a vengeance … and I just heard that the Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational surf contest was canceled for today – bummers!! I watched last year’s contest and it was pretty awesome – they were the biggest waves I have ever seen in my life! I actually felt my breath taken away every time a contestant made “the drop” down the face of one of those giant monsters! If the surf doesn’t improve, they’re gonna have to cancel the event and wait for next year …
Last night we tried a new izakaya restaurant in Mo’ili’ili called Izakaya Naru. It’s owner is a friend of DJ Hiroko Iijima of Studio Rim (photo) and the food is quite good. We were gathered for our shinnenkai (new year gathering) and ordered a variety of Japanese and Okinawan izakaya dishes. My favorite was the cold udon noodles which was the last dish of the evening, and I was told that they make their own udon noodles fresh daily.  I also tried some shiso (plum leaf) sho-chu which was quite refreshing but potent! Feelin’ a little slow this morning …
