Feels like winter!

Good morning, everyone!  It’s been raining off and on here in Manoa for the last few days and there’s even a little chill in the air!  Don’t get me wrong .. I definitely prefer cool & green over hot & brown any day!  I’m not sure the puppies can go for their walk this morning since it’s raining … they’re gonna be pretty upset because yesterday’s walk was canceled because of rain too.

Nick & Alex went fishing out in Kaneohe Bay yesterday on our little Boston Whaler.  I think they had a good time although they didn’t catch anything – I think it’s because they started out a little late and there was a lot of activity on the water all weekend.  Kaneohe Bay is one of the prettiest bays here on the windward side of O’ahu … very well-protected with lots of reefs and sandbars.  We always launch our boat out of the He’eia Kea boat harbor which has fueling facilities and a convenience store with a snack bar located dockside.  My friend, Ernie Choy and his family have been running the store forever, and I used to love eating one of their hamburger steak or loco moco plate lunches after a long day of fishing … great food, great times and great memories!

I’ve got another busy day ahead which includes a doctor’s appointment to have my wrist checked out again – damn thing is still giving me problems!  Someone told me to try acupuncture which sounded like a good idea except for one thing … I HATE NEEDLES!!

  1. Aloha!
I received your new CD “Evolution” today. I love it so much that I am posting this comment. It is quite sophisticated compared to the previous albums that I also love.

We happened upon your stage in Ala Moana Shopping Center in March. My husband said it was the kind of music he wanted to hear in Hawaii. We live in cool Seattle but feel like we are still in Hawaii when we listen to your songs.

Good luck on your upcoming Japan tour! My children and I will be in Japan during the time (we will be in Osaka and won’t be able to see your performances though) and wishing you good time there.
    Take care.

    • Aloha, Chika-san!
Thank you so much for listening to “Evolution” and I’m glad you enjoyed it! We really had a lot of fun
recording it, especially MJ’s “The Way You Make Me Feel”! Alex’s song, “Dreams Come Alive” is a very special song –
Alex wrote it for my dad, his grandpa, shortly after my dad passed away last year. We’ve tried to perform it live several
times, but it’s too difficult. Perhaps one day …..

  2. Dear Dad,
Thank you for sharing the insight of the songs. I believe one of the reasons we enjoy MDNA’s music is that we somewhat relate our lives to MDNA and its songs.

My husband is a third generation Japanese American and has a large extended family. His dad who was an anchor of the family passed away 6 years ago. My husband still misses him very much especially around Memorial Day weekend because he fought in WWII, at family picnics and….oh, on most of the holidays and occasions because he was always there for the family. But the pain and the sense of loss gradually heal and only precious memories will stay in our hearts.
    Take care.

    • Aloha Chika-san,
Thank you so much for your lovely message! Like your husband, I am also sansei and my father fought in Europe with the 442nd in WWII.
We’ve benefited greatly from their courage and sacrifice, so now it’s up to us to carry on their legacy. Our dads will be sorely missed but never forgotten ….
