Big Island recap

Howzit, everybody … yes, it’s Sunday evening and I’m finally getting around to updating my blog.  We got back from the Big Island this morning after another wonderful “Talk Story” event at the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel last night.   What a magical place!  We performed before a packed house under the stars with a full moon and the ocean just steps away.  To top it all off, we enjoyed an ono potluck of beef stew, poi, mac salad, and rice afterward which is our favorite part of the evening!  I want to send a big mahalo our to our hosts, Danny & Anna Akaka, and also to Susan, John, Pi’i, Suzie, Francis, Mele, Leolani, and all the rest who make this awesome event possible.

"Talk Story" @ the Eva Parker Wood cottage

Interesting note – when we arrived in Kona, I went to pick up our rental car at Dollar.  Upon entering the Dollar terminal,  there was a line of customers almost twice the length of the room!  Wondering what was taking so long, I glanced over at the counter and saw the reason – all the customers at the counter were Japanese tourists who spoke little or no English while the workers behind the counter were either haole or locals who spoke no Japanese.  I’ve never seen so many hand gestures and quizzical looks before in my life, and it would have been funnier if it didn’t take us forever to get our car!

Aloha, “D”

Another awesome "Talk Story" ... mahalo, everyone!!
Stew, rice, poi, and mac salad ... doesn't get much better!!

I rented a rental car at Dollar and counter was a line too.

I went to town of Kona,Hiro, Kilauea volcano and went around Big Island.
    I was splendid it.
The Hawaiian driver was very kind.

I went to the Manoa folls by a rent-a-car, and muddy in there for this stay, too.

    • Aloha Miki!
Yes, the Big Island is much larger than O’ahu so you must have driven a long time!
And I’m glad you were able to enjoy Manoa Falls on your recent trip.
