Golf!

Yup .. you guessed it – it’s Thursday, and you know what that means!  That’s right – GOLF!  I really enjoy my Thursday golf outings because I’m with a great group of guys and the course is always in pristine shape.  The best part is at the “19th hole” afterwards when the winners brag and the losers make excuses!:-)

As I mentioned in yesterday’s blog, I had a wonderful lunch with my friend Wayne, and Jesse Kuhaulua and his manager at the Stage restaurant near my office.  They had just come from the State Capitol where Jesse was honored by the Senate for his many accomplishments.  Maui-born Jesse, was the first foreign-born sumo wrestler to attain a champion-level rank in Japan’s traditional sport of sumo – an unimaginable feat back then!  His sumo name was Takamiyama, and he is credited for “blazing the trail” for other foreign wrestlers to enter Japan’s most sacred sport.  But the most impressive thing about Jesse yesterday was that he’s still the gentle, down-to-earth local boy from Mau’i … even after all the accomplishments and accolades he’s received all these years.  What a great role model for all of us!

Aloha, “D”

Jesse "Takamiyama" makes me look so short!
