Carla’s birthday!

Aloha everyone!  It’s Saturday and it’s Carla’s birthday … so can everybody please say “HAPPY BIRTHDAY CARLA!!”  I’m taking her to dinner tonight while the boys are going to watch UH get clobbered by Boise State out at Aloha Stadium.  I’m sorry but although I love the Warriors, I’m a realist and Boise State is probably going to kick our butts bad!  Should be a fun tailgate party though ….

Had a great lunch yesterday with my writer pal Susan Sunderland of MidWeek at Mariposa.  That’s one of my favorite places to have lunch – great food and service – and general manager Duane Kawamoto is “da best”!  My favorite dishes are the Kahuku corn chowder and the lobster club sandwich or Mariposa burger … soooo ono!!  Thanks for the treat, Susan, you sneaky buggah … next one’s on me!  By the way, I promise to get you the first “official” ripe avocado from our tree (and not the one I find on the ground either! :-)).

It was another fun night at Lulu’s … Waikiki was super crowded since there was a Sunset on the Beach concert across the street as well as a reggae concert at the Waikiki Shell.  Naturally, we packed ’em in again with a nice mix of locals and tourists along with the occasional cameo appearance by a street person.  I hope you all tuned in to ManoaDNA LIVE! since Nick seemed to get a better angle on the camera.  It was nice to see a bunch of Alex’s and Nick’s friends and classmates there along with our usual DNA Ohana … and a big mahalo to our “dancers” – Poha’i, Yutaka, sistah Pat, and Kamalei!  And arigato to our friends Richie & Sunny (thanks for the “ABC” lei!), Sae and my buddy Shion, Misa (aka “Meg”), Wakaha, Michi (see? I remembered your name!), Linda, Denise, Zac, Lauren, baby “Peopee” and all the rest who came down to party with us!

We’ll be at Lulu’s next Friday which will be the day before Halloween, so please wear something other than the mask you have on now (nah, nah .. joke! :-)).  We then leave for Hiroshima and Tokyo the following week with Mayor Mufi Hannemann and his delegation to help celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Hiroshima-Honolulu sister city relationship.  Then on the 8th, we travel to Tokyo to perform in a concert at the Nihon Seinenkan Hall before returning home on the 9th.  So to all of our dear friends and fans in Japan … brace yourselves ’cause we’re ready to ROCK ‘N ROLL, BABY!!!

Aloha, The “D”
