News from Dad

Aloha,

ManoaDNA debuted at the brand new Kani Ka Pila Bar & Grille in the Outrigger Reef Hotel last Saturday evening with lots of family and friends in the audience. This week it will be just me & Alex since Nick is going to the mainland to visit friends.  Sitting in on Friday at Lulu’s will be our good buddy, Jack Ofoia of the Mana’o Company, and on Saturday our good friend and “monster” guitarist Vernon Sakata will be helping us light up the Kani Ka Pila stage.  If you’re in Waikiki, you should try and make it down to one of these venues …  should be lots of fun!

We’re also excited about a TV special that will be shown in Japan starting this week about our journey to Hiroshima to find our family roots. It was produced by TV Shin Hiroshima and filmed in both Hiroshima and Hawaii. Alex wrote the theme song “Voices Sweet” for the program and it’s awesome!  We’ll be getting a DVD copy soon, so I can’t wait to see it!

And finally, we’re getting ready to go up to Japan to perform during the Golden Week holiday, and the boys & I are already dreaming about the delicious katsu, ramen, and “beeru” which we plan to partake in huge quantities!  We’re also looking forward to seeing all of our friends and fans in Tokyo, Osaka, and Hiroshima!

Aloha,
dad
