Good morning, all! Just got back from walking the puppies – Peanut ate a lot of grass so he must have another upset stomach. I’ve got another busy day in store with several meetings and a rehearsal this evening. Yesterday I had a breakfast meeting over at the Pagoda Restaurant which I hadn’t been to in ages but still looks the same. The surrounding fishpond is still filled with koi and ulua (separated, of course) and I remember spending hours as a kid just watching them swim back and forth … boy, some of those ulua are HUGE!  Years ago, my dad used to have breakfast meetings there every Saturday and I’d occasionally go down to sit and listen to him and his friends “talk shop”. I kinda miss those days now ….
I also had two pau hana meetings at the original Side Street Inn the last two nights. Ordered all the good stuff – pork chops, fried rice, yakisoba noodles, ahi/aku/nairage poke combo, farmer’s salad, and misoyaki chicken. Food was great, the beer was ice cold, and the meetings were very productive … all in all, a great way to end the day!Â
The new Miss Hawai’i, Lauren Cheape, came in to IOLANI on Kona St. yesterday to get some new outfits for her upcoming appearances. She’s so nice and personable and I hope she represents Hawai’i well in the Miss America pageant next January.
Also want to send “get well” wishes to our buddy in Japan, Sam Murakami, who went down with a spine injury playing basketball a few days ago and is still in the hospital. Gotta remind him that us old guys gotta take things a bit slower these days …
Aloha, “D”
