Masters – 3rd Round

April 10th, 2010

Good morning!  Today is the third round of the Masters, what many consider professional golf’s greatest tournament.  And it looks like Tiger Woods is in the hunt at 6 under, about 3 strokes behind the leader.  I know, I know .. a lot of you non-golfers are thinking “what’s the big deal??” … well, to us hackers this is like the Super Bowl of golf!  It is THE golf tournament to watch!  I know I’ll  be spending most of this weekend glued to the TV watching my favorite players ….

Lulu’s was a little strange last night … the sound system was acting a little weird and I felt like we had to work really hard!  Thank goodness our family and friends were there to support us through it!  At least we ended the evening on a good note – stopped off at Zippy’s to pick up a couple of their awesome chili mocos!  If you haven’t had one, it’s like the popular loco moco dish with two eggs on a hamburger patty over a bed of rice, except that instead of gravy, they use their famous chili.  It’s definitely not one of the healthier dishes, but it’s “comfort food” and it sure is DEEEEELICIOUS!!

Goooooo Tiger!!

ゴルフをします! Golf!!

October 18th, 2009

Today I will play golf and win!! We have our monthly golf outing today with a bunch of our friends. Hopefully the weather stays nice because it’s raining all over. The only good thing about the rain today is the huge rainbow it makes. Check out the picture below!

We had great nights at Lulus and Kani Ka Pila this weekend so thank youto everyone who came out! Sorry to the DNA live people because Kani Ka Pila doesn’t allow us to broadcast yet, hopefully they will get it working soon!

Lulu’s tonight!

September 11th, 2009

Howzit everybody!  It’s Friday again … man, this week really flew by didn’t it?  We performed for Fashion Night at the Ala Moana Center last night and boy was it humid!  We had fun, though, and want to thank Katie and the marketing staff at Ala Moana for inviting us to perform.  We’ve got a full weekend ahead with Lulu’s tonight, Kani Ka Pila (KKP) tomorrow night, and MDNA golf on Sunday … then it’s off to Japan early Monday morning!  Somewhere in-between I’ve got to find time to run errands and bathe the puppies too! (they really STINK!)

Don’t forget to check out ManoaDNA LIVE! on the internet tonight and tomorrow where we’ll be streaming live video from Lulu’s and KKP.  Be sure to tune in and say “hi”!

Aloha, Lloy”D”

No golf :-(

September 10th, 2009

I won’t be able to do my usual Thursday afternoon golf with my buddies :-( ’cause we have to perform for a promotion at the Ala Moana Center this afternoon.  I have no idea what it’s for, but it’s scheduled so I’m there.  I picked up the new L.R. Baggs D.I. (connects my guitar to the sound system) and I’m excited to try it out!  It has a small E.Q., tuner, and best of all, a DC input which means I’ll be able to use direct current instead of a battery!  No more sudden distortion , “drop-outs”, or weird noises caused by weak batteries during a performance!  Awesome!

Some of the girls from StudioRim Hawaii are coming down to IOLANI today to check out our women’s line.  They’re emceeing the shows up in Sapporo the following week so hopefully we’ll see them in our stuff!  IOLANI NO KA ‘OI!!  Speaking of shows, we’re looking for some new hula song(s) to perform live, so I thought I’d ask you guys for some input … after all, you are the reason why we love to perform!

Aloha, “Pops”

ManoaDNA LIVE! Hana hou …

September 6th, 2009

It’s another rainy Manoa morning, and I’m getting ready to walk the puppies.  Our dogs are so lolo - they bug us to take them for their walk and then run away when we try to put on their walking harnesses!  Go figure ….

It was another awesome evening at Kani Ka Pila!  We streamed our live performance via the internet so I hope you were able to at least catch some of our show last night.  We had another great crowd in attendance with lots of them blowing these little red whistles that our friend, Yutaka, had brought and was giving away. Nick and Alex were also surprised to see a couple of their former Punahou teachers in the audience, and !  BTW, I’d like to be sure to say “hi” to all of you personally the next time we do a live video feed, so please remind me before the next scheduled performance.  You can check our schedule since Nick always tries to keep it updated.

I did not score very well during my round of golf out at Hoakalei yesterday, although I had a blast with my partners Leon, Chris, and Danny.  As I pointed out in my previous blog, Hoakalei is a brand new golf course out on the Ewa plain and was designed by professional golfer, Ernie Els.  The course covers a much larger area than other Hawaii courses, and there are SO many sandtraps – over 130 to be exact!  Naturally, I ended up in a few of them during the course of play but was able to get out without too much trouble.  Since we weren’t familiar with the course, our scores reflected it – I shot a horrendous 91 – and that was the low score of our group!  What the …?!  I’m sure if we played it again (hint, hint) we’d definitely do much better! :-)

Have a great Labor Day!

Aloha, Lloy”D”

ManoaDNA LIVE!

September 5th, 2009

We had our first live internet broadcast of ManoaDNA LIVE from Lulu’s in Waikiki last night!  Boy, was it fun!!  It was interesting to see the number of internet viewers increase as the evening went on … I hope everyone enjoyed our version of reality TV!  I think the boys are going to it again from Kani Ka Pila tonight so it should be interesting … I hope you’ll tune in to see us!

And our beloved U.H. Warriors won last night although they had to come from behind in the last couple of minutes!  Oh well, a win is a win in my book …

I’m off to walk the puppies and then I’m headed out to join some friends for a round of golf out at the new Hoakalei course in Ewa.  I’m taking a lot of balls in case I have a bad day, but hopefully I’ll be able to keep my score below 100!

Aloha, Lloy”D”

One more week …

September 4th, 2009

… before we return to beautiful Japan for another promotional tour!  We will be representing Hawaii Tourism at the Tokyo Big Sight convention center for the JATA World Trade Fair, before moving on to Sapporo for two performances at the Factory.

I had a terrible golf score yesterday – 93!  For some reason my drives off the tee were hooking so badly that it looked like I was throwing a boomerang!  Luckily, the other guys weren’t doing much better so I pretty much broke even on my bets and escaped a lot of abuse!  I was invited to play tomorrow morning at Hoakalei, a new Ernie Els-designed golf course  out in Ewa.  My friend told me that the courset has something like 130+ sand traps … YIKES!  Sand is my worst #@*%# enemy!  Now, now … think positive, Lloyd …

The University of Hawaii football season kicks off tonight with our U.H. team taking on Central Arkansas out at Aloha Stadium.  We won’t be able to go since we’re playing at Lulu’s, but we’ll be rooting for our beloved Warriors!  Go get ‘em coach Mack!!

Aloha, Lloy”D”

Real Golfing

August 27th, 2009

So, I recently bought a new game for my Xbox 360, a game called Tiger Woods Golf 10. I was having fun and playing it with my friends a lot, and the other night, my xbox decided to break. Now I can’t play any game at all until I fix my Xbox. Terrible!!! So today, I decided to get out and play so real golf! However we went to the most crowded course in Hawaii, the Ala Wai Golf Course. It took us over 2 hours to play 6 holes and my friend and I got pissed off and just left. Haha, it was a beautiful day as you can see in the video, but it ended in frustration. Haha hope you enjoy the short video!!

Solheim Cup

August 23rd, 2009

I watched the final round of the Solheim Cup today … for those of you who don’t know what it is, it’s a golf tournament between the best women players from the U.S. and Europe.  What an exciting match!  I was especially proud of the way Hawaii’s own Michelle Wie performed … her steady play helped the U.S. defeat the Europeans, and she was the only undefeated player on either team with 3 wins and 1 tie.  Congratulations, Michelle!

The boys and I performed at a wedding last night out by the old fishponds near He’eia Kea pier.  I was still a little jet lagged from Vegas, but managed to hit my most of my notes and play the right chords!  It’s a beautiful place to have a wedding although some of the staff out there need some serious attitude adjustments.  They were rude and acted like bullies and if that was my business, I’d have fired them right on the spot!  These idiots just don’t get it …
