Outrigger Reef’s Kani Ka Pila Grille Joins ManoaDNA in Group’s Second Annual Toy Drive
100% of the toys will go to Toys for Tots and the Lokahi Tree to be given to Hawaii families this Holiday Season

For Immediate Release

Oahu, Honolulu, HawaiiI – For the second year in a row, island music group ManoaDNA will be hosting a toy drive benefiting Hawaii’s families. Joining the effort this year is Kani Ka Pila Grille at the Outrigger Reef on the Beach, where ManoaDNA performs weekly each Saturday evening.

On December 11th, members of the U.S. Marines, ManoaDNA, and volunteers will be on-hand from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Outrigger Reef’s Kani Ka Pila Grille to collect toys that will be distributed to two Hawaii charities helping Hawaii families this holiday season. Toys should be unwrapped, new or unused, with 100% of the donations going to both Toys for Tots and the Lokahi Tree.

According to ManoaDNA’s Alex Kawakami, “The Kani Ka Pila Grille is a perfect location for this event because people can come down, drop off their donation, and enjoy great food, drink, and entertainment.”

Kawakami also said they hope to surpass last year’s donations with this year’s drive. “Last year we donated a dozen trash bags full of toys. This year, with a lot more planning and new partners like the folks at Kani Ka Pila Grille and the Outrigger Reef, we hope to get twice that amount and really help Hawaii’s families this holiday season.”

“We’re so pleased to be a part of ManoaDNA’s efforts to help make the holidays brighter for some of our island keiki whose families find themselves in need,” said Luana Maitland, Kani Ka Pila Grille’s hostess and ambassador of aloha. “Our island community is so generous; I have no doubt we’ll have a tremendous outpouring of giving from our local residents. I also expect those visitors who are at Kani Ka Pila Grill that evening will drop a few dollars in the basket once they learn what’s happening.”

People dropping off toys between 3:00 and 4:00 p.m. on December 11th will enjoy the talents of the keiki of Halau Hula o Maiki who will perform in the front lobby of the Outrigger Reef. ManoaDNA will take the Kani Ka Pila stage from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m for a spirited evening of holiday cheer and entertainment.

The Kani Ka Pila Grille also has gotten into the generous spirit. The restaurant’s happy hour menu and prices normally available from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. only will be extended throughout the evening to those patrons who bring in a donation on December 11th.

If people can’t make it to Kani Ka Pila Grille for the toy drive but would still like to donate, ManoaDNA has setup alternate ways for people to help. First, donations can be dropped off at the group’s main drop-off site – the IOLANI on Kona Street retail store. Located at 1234 Kona Street, second floor above Side Street Inn, IOLANI on Kona Street will be happy to collect any toy donations before December 11th.

Second, donations can be purchased on-line and sent directly to ManoaDNA. The group has set up an Amazon.com Wish List containing a list of toys for donation. Anyone can log onto the wish list, purchase their donation, and Amazon.com will ship it directly to ManoaDNA! Plus, if they spend $25 or more, shipping is free! Just be sure to have all donations arrive before December 10th. For complete details about online donations, visit www.ManoaDNA.com.

Toy donations only and any donation must be unwrapped and new or unused. ManoaDNA will be posting updates throughout the evening of December 11th on their twitter feed (www.twitter.com/manoadna).

ManoaDNA is a band consisting of father Lloyd Kawakami, and sons Nick and Alex. They can be found twice a week in Waikiki (every Saturday at Kani Ka Pila Grill) or on the net at ManoaDNA.com. This is the second year of hosting a toy drive, and 100% of the donations will be given to Hawaii charities helping Hawaii families.
